9/11 + 365 · One year ago at this hour, I was driving from Davenport, Iowa toward Dubuque when the world changed. I didn't see any pictures until I got to Madison, Wisconsin, around noon and picked up the newspaper. (In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't see any video until that night.)

When I got to Rockford, Illinois, I called my friend Alison in Brooklyn and heard the sad news that her boyfriend Darren was in the World Trade Center.

The memories of the distress in Alison's voice were all brought back to me right now, as the victims' names are being read at the World Trade Center site.

That is my most enduring memory of that terrible day.

Forever and a day · Hello everyone! I just got back from the Memphis Comedy Festival, held not in Memphis, not even in Tennessee, but in Tunica, Mississippi at Bally's Casino. I have to say... I have never laughed so hard or so long in my life!

My friend Sue B. from Boston was there, performing. (Hi, Sue! You'll always be my prison bitch *g*) Tabetha Wells was also there, as nice as ever. She remembers the freaks in the purple shirts. I don't know whether to be glad or scared at that. :) And I finally met Jill Bernard. YAY!

The festival: Very minimal suckage. Lots of near brilliance, especially from (in no particular order as my brain is still frazzled) Slap Happy (Toronto), ¡Salsation! (Chicago), Ed Reggi (St. Louis) and Lindsey Patrick (Memphis), GOGA (NYC), It's Not Me, It's Me (Chicago), Coyote Pretty (Chicago), Churd Russell (Raleigh NC), etc. etc. etc. etc.

Wound up not taking workshops, mainly due to cash considerations, which stems from the house mess. I had a choice: go to the festival and not take workshops, or take the workshops and not go to the festival (obviously an impossible choice).

Coyote Pretty inadvertently almost caused the festival to be shut down. One of the players takes off her shirt and shows her bra. (A not especially revealing one, mind you. Think Mia Hamm.) However, this being Mississippi and being in a location where liquor is served... the organizers received a stern warning from casino management that their liquor license could have been revoked.

Life updates · I am back in my house, which is part of the reason I haven't updated ye blog in so long. Still have many boxes left to unpack, and once they're out of the garage, I have a storage unit full of stuff to bring back to the garage. You can't win.

Any ideas for a vacation this fall, anyone?
